Call to Order

  • The meeting was called to order by President David Sengstock at 1:40 p.m.
  • Diane Williams was appointed Secretary of the Day.
  • Peter Napolitano and Maria Roberts were thanked for their outstanding job in planning the meeting at SUNY Binghamton.

Treasurer’s Report

Balance as of 4/16$25,839.50
  • This includes $6,000 in dues
To be added$17,480.00
  • Revenue from Annual Meeting
$5,000.00
  • Seed money
TOTAL$48,319.50
  • The Annual Meeting had net income due to the record number of attendees, vendors, and incentives from the Desmond.
  • Money was spent from the treasury on the following:
    • Dining Services Sustainability Committee meeting
    • Legal Advice on FOIL
    • Insurance
    • After discussion, it was determined that the host campus will receive $3,000, instead of $1,500.

2015 Annual Meeting

  • A survey conducted regarding the conference site for 2015 revealed that 72% of those who responded were in favor of TURNING STONE.
  • We will set a rate for non-dues paying participants for the conference

Allocation of Funds

  • There was discussion about allocating funds for scholarships to attend conference or CASP certification. It was determined that the group was not ready to make this allocation.
  • David Sengstock will attend the SUBOA meeting, May 26-28, 2014, and SASA will cover his expenses.
  • There was a discussion to allocate $10,000 for RESERVE FUNDS.
    • Motion by Peter Napolitano; Seconded by Mike Flaherty; unanimously approved

Annual Dues

  •  Dues are based on a calendar year; next due in January 2015

Healthcare Consortium Update

  •  On 4/17/14, Executive Directors and Controllers will meet with Brown and Brown for a presentation.

Salary Survey Update

  • Mark Scoot explained that Ashtron will administer the survey. The cost is $4,000 and Geneseo has paid for it.
  • The survey started with 2 positions, and will be expanded to 12.
  • PDF summary and spread sheet will be given to participants; will include a wage differential.
  • Executive Directors will look at this info and offer feedback; job description samples will be shared as well.
  • Survey will be administered in September and results will be shared in October.
  • Michael Maciekowich of Ashtron Solutions will do a presentation at our October meeting.

Call to Order

  • The meeting was called to order by President David Sengstock at 10:10 a.m.

Salary Survey

  •  The job description and scope of responsibility are important
  •  The Executive Directors will be polled to see what their concerns are and to select the variables/criteria before it is sent onto the HR folks.

Benefits Consortium

  • Brown & Brown of New York, Inc., Consulting & Brokerage Services, presented on “Benefits of Strategic Sourcing & Shared Services.”
  • Everyone was interested in looking into disability and life insurance
  • There would have to be a regional evaluation for health insurance; Dave will gauge interest.

Work Groups

  • Executive Directors were assigned to the various work groups as follows:
    • Diane Williams: Bookstore
    • Mark Scott: Marketing (editor’s note: this was changed to Jay Brady during the wrap-up meeting)
    • Glen Gaslin: ID Card/Info Technology
    • Mike Flaherty: Food Services
    • Dave Sengstock: HR
    • Glen Gaslin: Transportation/Housing
    • Dana Weiss: Controllers

SASA Website

  •  Leslie Craigmyle will work with Ray Kohl from UB to update the website with SASA’s sustainability initiatives.

Sustainability Review

  • There will be a two prong approach to our sustainability initiatives
    • Diane Williams will work with Leslie and Ray to highlight our standout initiatives on the website
    • Mark Scott, Dave Sengstock, Steve Deutsch, and Glen Gaslin will meet and work with Deb Howard of SUNY Central.

Fall Meeting

  • Westchester Community College and Purchase will co-host the fall meeting.

Round Table Updates

  • Brockport: All good
  • Potsdam: New President
  • Binghamton: Forming an ASC
  • Cobleskill: $40 million ag building, café included;
  • Geneseo: Presidential search, $17 million renovation of Letchworth Dining Hall will be ready for the fall. Tim Hortons next summer; looking at bookstore options.
  • U Buffalo: Moving to self-op of vending, remodeling a dining hall and negotiating space with the medical school. UB has a new food truck
  • Oswego: Has developed a student employee assessment program
  • Oneonta: Building a new building for bookstore, clothing store, ID/Dining Card Operation, OAS and Sodexo management; opening a new retail dining operation, Seasons, in the fall.
  • Morrisville: Will be self-operating vending on three campuses.
  • New Paltz: Shop 24 has been a challenge; Sodexo will be talking over that operation.
  • Alfred: Long-term dining director is retiring; new President
